Rare 1870\'s Western Cure Remedy Bottle embossed on one side with \"Dr. E. Champlain Ligneous Extract Patented\". This bottle is obviously a product of the Pacific Glass Works in San Francisco as it has the classic curved Rs characteristics on many whiskey, bitters and cure bottles from the west manufactured at the glass works. I did some research on this bottle and found out that in the early 1870\'s, a D. Mayon and E. Champlain from Cloverdale, Sonoma County, California discovered a cure for dyspepsia, which is called \"Mayon\", and specifically Champlain\'s Ligneous Extract, and its name implies that it is extracted from wood by a peculiar process. Champlain and Mayon opened up an office on California Street between Montgomery and Kearny in San Francisco where dyspeptic persons could test the merits of the invention. Bottle stands just a tiny bit under 5 1/2 inches tall, and is a medium to lighter teal aqua color. Its very crude with applied top, lots of seed bubbles, long stretch bubbles in the neck, and the front panel where the lower part of the embossing is sunken in. There is even some yellow striations in the neck. No chips, dings, flashes, bruises, potstones, or any other flaw that I can see.
