SEMI-WORKING HP-85, Dual Floppy, Extra Mem, ROMs, Docs, Printer, Cables, MORE:

SEMI-WORKING HP-85, Dual Floppy, Extra Mem, ROMs, Docs, Printer, Cables, MOREThis is aSEMI-working HP-85 system with a dual5.25\" floppy drive, ROM drawer with ROMs, extra memory, an HP ThinkJetprinter with unused (NOS) cartridge, cables, and documentation. What does SEMI-workingmean? Well, the last time I used this machine (years ago), it wasfunctionally perfect (except for a bad printer drive belt). Thistime, no CRT display at all -- no sounds or smells, simply nodisplay. The unit seems to be working, as I can run the self-testwith correct output to the printer, and I can (blind) enter a simpleprogram to print \"HELLO\" and the current date to the printer and itworks (see photo). The reason the printer display in the photo looks allwobbly is that the printer advance drive belt has fallen apart, and theadvance function is now performed by me pulling up on the paper as itprints, thus the uneven print lines. I see that several vendorsare selling new drive belts for this machine for under $10 here on -- replacing the drive belt takes about two minutes (pop the top off(phillips screws underneath), slide the belt on -- that\'s it).Since I cannot see anything on the CRT, and can\'t really blindly typein any significant code without typos, I cannot test the system beyondwhat I have just stated. Specifically, the tape drive, dualfloppy, ROMs, extra memory, printer, and cables are all completely untested-- I have saved them for years because they worked, but this is all oldstuff now, so I make no guarantees at all about functionality. The system is configured with ROM drawer containing the veryuseful Advanced Programming ROM, the Plotter-Printer ROM, and theInput-Output ROM. The 16K Memory Module extends the base, built-inmemory.
Also included are two HP-IB interface peripherals (NOTE: NO HP-IB INTERFACE IS INCLUDED IN THIS sale): an HP82901m Dual Flexible Disc Drive, plus an HP InkJet printer with new, old stock (NOS) cartridge. Also included are an HP-IB cable, two rear interface blanking plates, power cables and documentation.Cosmetically, the HP-85 is outstanding -- there is a slight scuffabove the tape drive (visible in the photo), some small white paintdroplets spattered along the rear of the case, and an old glue-blob onthe right rear. The case is completely intactwith nocracks. There are various minor residual tape and labelmarks onthe case, and the case shows the typical age-yellowing of this vintageof equipment. Theprinter works well (needs a drive belt). The cartridge tape driveis untested -- you shouldinspect the condition of the tape drive rollers and probably renew thembefore trusting any irreplaceable cartridges to it (it was functionalwhen last used, but time degrades the rubber rollers). The HP82901m dual 5.25\" floppy disc drive is untested due to the lack of a CRT. Cosmetically it looks perfect. Thereare some minor dark marks on the top of the case from the rubber feetof stacked units. If youplan on using these drives to read or write important information, Irecommend cleaning them first. Note that this unit is a \"master\"-- it contains two drives and a disk controller. If you want toadd additional drives (the 82901S model), they must be added to asystem that already has an \"M\" (master) drive such as this installed;thus this system can be expanded by adding additional drives if desired. The printer is a very nice HP ThinkJet inkjet printer with an HP-IBinterface. It is untested due to lack of a CRT. I include avery old, but still liquid (you can hear it when you shake it)cartridge -- no idea if it is still useful. If I recall correctly, this HP-85 was originally part of an HP 3054A DataAcquisition Control System. In this system, the HP-85 was thedirecting brains for a collection of additional data collecting andinterfacing instruments. The bulk of the 3054A is long gone, butI include the original 3054A documentation which covers it all.Included in this sale:
