IMHO Sophisticated Circuits PowerKey products were one of the cleverest and best 3rd-party accessories for vintage Macintosh computers. Tired of reaching around behind your Mac SE or SE/30 to turn it on or off? Well, guess what: Sophisticated Circuits' PK-1 allows you start up any ADB Macintosh running System 6 or later by using the soft power key found on most ADB keyboards and turn power completely off using the Apple shut down menu. And it works just as well with ADB Macs that already can be started up by using an ADB keyboard's soft power key. There's a nice demo on the web showing how this works -- just use The Google to find "Sophisticated Circuits PowerKey video".A PK-1 has four grounded outlets. It also has a Macintosh ADB port. When an ADB Mac is plugged into one of the outlets and the PK-1's ADB port is connected to an ADB keyboard having a soft power key and to the Mac's ADB port using a Sophisticated Circuits branching ADB cable (not included in this listing) the Mac can be turned on using the keyboard's soft power key. It can also be shut down using the Apple Shut Down menu. The power switch on the Mac is left permanently on. The other three outlets will also come on when the Mac starts up and shut off when the Mac shuts down. These can control power to printers, external drives, displays, etc.Want more? The PowerKey PK-1 comes with software (not shown, but included) that can be used to schedule the Mac to start up and shut down automatically at specific times on specific days. It can also be used to schedule events such as backups, etc. There are many other useful features to explore. If you add a PKR-1 PowerKey Remote (not included in this listing) you can even start up your ADB Mac with a phone call and then shut it down when certain events occur.
I tested this PK-1 with a Mac SE, and it works properly. I was able to turn on and start up the SE using the softpower key on the keyboard and shut it down and turn off power completely using the Mac's shut down menu item.Sadly, Sophisticated Circuits went out of business a while back and branching ADB cables for the PK-1 are hard to find. I only have one and I need to keep it for my other PK-1. So you will have to find or make your own branching ADB cable. I will include a copy of PowerKey Version 2.1.4 software on an 800K 3.5" floppy diskette and a photocopy of the most critical parts of the PowerKey manual (both not shown in photos, but included).
This PK-1 is identical to the one shown in the photos except for the serial number. This one is serial number 9977.
