OPNsense six-port Gigabit router/firewall on Lanner FW-7535 hardware:
$69.00

FOR SALE: Lanner FW-7535 six-port Gigabit router/firewall running OPNsense.

The device is a Lanner FW-7535 router rebranded by Vyatta for use with its eponymous router/firewall software. We repurposed the device into a generalist router / firewall by installing OPNsense, an open-source operating system for networking equipment. Please note this is a legacy device; it will reliably route and firewall Gigabit traffic, but it is not designed for high-speed delivery of next-generation services, such as IDS/IPS, VPN, or malware detection.

To test the device and make port functions consistent with on-device labeling, we made a few changes to the initial OPNsense configuration. A detailed configuration note will be provided to the buyer. Alternatively, the buyer could simply reset the software to its initial state.

The device runs on an Intel Atom D510 processor (two cores, four threads, 1.66 GHz) with 2 GB of RAM. The sole storage device is a 4 GB CF card. Networking (six Gigabit ports) is handled by Intel network interface cards (the 82xxx family). The BIOS is unlocked and accessible over the console connection. Please note that we have installed the "nano" version of OPNsense, which is optimized for running "in-memory" from media sensitive to repeated rewrites such as SD, CF, and CFast cards.

The device is implemented in a desktop form factor. The case is all metal and exceptionally rigid.

The device is passively cooled and completely silent. The combination of passive cooling and ruggedized design makes this device attractive for use in light industrial environments such as workshop or warehouse. The device is quite hefty (the entire case is one big heatsink), so the shipping cost is a bit on the high side.

The device is in good physical condition (please review the photos). There is some scratching consistent with normal use. A power supply unit with a threaded coupling (no more accidental unplugging!) is included.
