Check for the version of the libpng package Detailed Explanation for this Vulnerability Assessment The remote host is missing the patch for the advisory SUSE-SA:2003:0004 (libpng). The library libpng provides several functions to encode, decode and manipulate Portable Network Graphics (PNG) image files. Due to wrong calculation of some loop offset values a buffer overflow can occur. The buffer overflow can lead to Denial-of-Service or even to remote compromise. After updating libpng all applications that use libpng should be restarted. Due to the fact that a lot of applications are linked with libpng it may be necessary to switch to runlevel S and back to the previous runlevel or even to reboot the system. There is no temporary fix known. Please install the new packages from our FTP servers. Please download the update package for your distribution and verify its integrity by the methods listed in section 3) of this announcement. Then, install the package using the command 'rpm -Fhv file.rpm' to apply the update.
