Vulnerability Assessment Details

MDKSA-2006:140: ncompress

Vulnerability Assessment Summary
Check for the version of the ncompress package

Detailed Explanation for this Vulnerability Assessment

The remote host is missing the patch for the advisory MDKSA-2006:140 (ncompress).

Tavis Ormandy, of the Google Security Team, discovered that ncompress,
when uncompressing data, performed no bounds checking, which could
permit a specially crafted datastream to underflow a .bss buffer with
attacker controlled data.
Updated packages have been patched to correct this issue.
