This is the most complete working unit on !Comes with 1 9gb drive w original sun spud and I can put solaris 10 (pre-oracle purchase, no oracle branding anywhere) on it if you want. Or I could put OpenBSD also. Ideally this would be local pickup as this is a big heavy server. I am in clearwater, FL, would be willing to meet somewhere if you suggest or Ill ship but the price will be high. Server is in good condition for its age. perfectly functional but plastic is cracked in places...its 30 years old! It has 4 x 400mhz processors, 4gb of ram. all 3 power supplies. keys included (2 keys). Maxed out!
The system is fantastic for learning UNIX or linux, Solaris is rock solid on this, openboot is a really nice system actually and it almost feels a bit "apple-like" in that the software and hardware work really closely together. This is an old system so dont expect it to handle modern workloads but it could easily be useful with code written with the limitations in mind. Remember, in late 90's, early 2000's 64-128mb of ram was common....MEGABYTES, not gb! This system was absolutely enormous for its day! You cannot run off the shelf kubernetes or anything (although I imagine if you optimized and compiled it for sparc you "could" get it to run at least...) but for software it was meant for or if you write code (or learning to write code) with the specs and requirements in mind you CAN absolutely have this doing real, useful, modern work. I have other Sun servers of the same era and I absolutely have them doing useful things for me but I keep them more for retro machines and I love the look of them, these systems have real character. This was a different world for these systems and they show it. This machine was over $50k in its prime, this was a serious investment and a LOT of thought, design, and care was put into it and it absolutely shows.
This system is for someone who really loves computing and wants to experience how it felt to use systems that cost more than houses when new. Or, to experience real UNIX of the day. Solaris is a direct descendant of AT&T UNIX. This is what admins and companies who were pioneers of the internet would be using. used these, Boeing used these...every major company who was around in the mid 90's used them and some ARE still running in server rooms around the world as these things ran core critical business processes that had millions of dollars of engineering poured into the code that ran on them. These are the things that RAN companies, literally.
for me personally its fascinating to own and use them...you may feel that too.

PROM chip is new, here is full diag boot output. The system is completely ready, solaris 10 is a fresh install, hme is setup with dhcp, and ssh is enabled with root login enabled. I will provide root password to buyer so you can literally plug it in, get the ip, and ssh into it!
Lately I have been trying out linux sparc distributions and I can get gentoo to run on my E3000 I cant get debian to run there but Debian linux WILL run on the E450. I have install media for Debian 6,7,9,10,11,&13 and they all work on the E450 which is pretty cool. If you want me to run the install before it is shipped or picked up by you let me know or if you just want me to burn the install media to a disc for you I can do that also.I find that to be pretty cool as I really like Debian although Gentoo is growing on me....
The other day I went ahead and install Debian 13 on this system. It runs nicely actually! I dont have a video card to install in it and I dont have vnc setup to access the desktop's to see how they run yet but pretty much everything appears to work perfectly. The only thing that dosent yet is the environmental controls. ChatGPT is telling me that there is a project that was built for that that was very close but not completed to take care of that. I am temped to take a look at that and at least get it to a certain point as what is mildly annoying is the fan's are initialized at max (which is not overwhelming actually) and the environment monitor does not start and register to the hardware on the board. The I2C bus DOES appear and it CAN be controlled by a driver once the drive is complete....that is the project, to complete that driver. That would be a fun and very useful project for the community if someone wants to complete that. There is a project and challenge built right in! Seriously though, its not a big deal and these cpus are VERY easy to overclock so having the fans at max might not be a bad thing anyway and OC'ing it to 500mhz will probably work fine, I can point you to the video on how to OC the cpus in these systems, and that will give you a bit of extra horsepower to run stuff. For the right kind of person, you will NOT be disappointed with this system.
Let me know what OS you would want on this if you order it. I can provide the disc for Debian 13 (or debian 6,7,9,10,11, &13 if you want them all, this is the only sun machine I can get debian running on, it dosent run on my e3000) and can provide the iso for solaris 8,9, & 10. Solaris 10 might need a dvd rom drive as it is too big for cd's and I dont have the cd distribution set (I used a zuluscsi device to intall it on this system).
