Lifetime Guarantee of Authenticity and Historical Attribution for this Document Grouping.

This is a really nice historical grouping - a large 12"x14" page from a scrapbook, with a Marine Corps Telegram listing a US Marine as WIA, as well as newspaper clippings. The date and his unit match up with being wounded on Guam.

Telegram - Washington D.C. 759 P.M. - 9/21/44 .... "Deeply regret that your son Private First Class Elmer F. Eggimann was Wounded in Action 3 August 1944 in the performance of his duty and service to his country. I realize your great anxiety but nature of wounds not reported and delay in receipt of details must be expected. You will be promptly furnished any additional information received. To prevent possible aid to our enemies do not divulge the name of his ship or station. - A. A. Vandergrift, Lt. General USMC - Commandant of the Corps".

Newspaper Clipping - "Elkader [Iowa] Marine Cleans Up" - Shows Pfc. Elmer F. Eggiman [Eggimann], Third Marine Division Machine-Gunner, doing his laundry "Somewhere in the Central Pacific".

Newspaper Clipping - "Takes Time Out for Laundry" - Same photo and similar caption.

Newspaper Clipping - Pfc. Eggimann Listed Wounded - Marine took part in Invasion of Guam ... "Mr. and Mrs. Eggimann have, however, been hearing regularly from their son since Aug. 3. He has not mentioned his wounds ... He is believed to have taken part in the invasion of Guam.".

His on-line obituary states - "In February 1943 he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He served in the Pacific Theater, was wounded twice, and invaded Iwo Jima with the second wave."

Note that the Third Marine Division lost 677 Marines killed, 3,626 wounded on Guam, and 1,131 killed, 4,438 wounded on Iwo Jima.

Last two photos were gleaned from the Internet. One shows a scan from a list of Marine Corps casualties from the State of Iowa, and the other is a photo of his headstone.
