300 B.C. EGYPTIAN GOLD COMMEMORATIVE SESOSTRIS I PLAQUE This sale is for anincredibly rare (circa 300 B.C.) Egyptian Gold Commemorative Plaque featuring Hathor on the obverse, and a cartouche of 12th DynastyPharaoh, Sesostris I on the reverse. These items seldom come up for sale, with only a handful known! Furthermore, item has beenfairly well preserved, and features a large amount of remaining detail within the obverse raised bust of Hathor, with individual facial characteristics evident, along with lines and detail still visible within the headdress. Reverse cartouche shows much wear and aging, with some remaining visibility but noticeable obscuring of detail. Item has several dents and abrasions, with a rough, cratered reverse, and some noticeable abrasions and dents along the raised bust of Hathor on the obverse. Item is gold, and I\'ve noticed that when you shake or jiggle the item, there appears to be some loose filling or small items inside / within the plaque. Item is gold with a weight of roughly 5 Grams, with a width of roughly 29mm from left to right, and a length of roughly 35mm from top to bottom. Item comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from the Sadigh Gallery of Ancient Art; said COA shows noticeable wear and some rips evident, with small portions missing and heavy folds / creases.
Certificate of Authenticity describes the item as: \"Commemorative Plaque - Depicts face of Hathor, Goddess of magic and love. Cartouche on back of the 12th Dynastic King, Pharaoh Kha\' Khgora - RA Sesostris. Made of Gold. Ptolemaic Period, 300 B.C.\" I am not sure if the C.O.A. accurately lists the correct name / spelling for the Pharaoh, which it describes as \"Kha\' Khgora\", though it goes on to list him as \"RA Sesostris\". I believe this is RA Sesostris I, also known as Kheperkare, who was the second pharaoh of the 12th Dynasty of Egypt. Again, item ships with a Certificate of Authenticity from Sadigh Gallery Ancient Art and bears the signature of Mehrdad Sadigh at left center, along with the date of purchase (8-15-95) at right center. Please examine the pictures (scans) provided to best judge the gold plaque and its condition. Item was scanned using a flatbed scanner—some scratches or distraction is likely a result of disturbances on the scanner glass, and may not exist on theplaque itself.
