Bose 8\" Woofer Re-Foam Re-Edge Service 301 601 4.2 6.2 10.2 Vintage :
$35.00

Please read through the entire listing. I takepridein the quality of my work, and the carefully selected components I use. Unlike some others, I want YOU, the customer to know up front what you\'ll be getting for your hard earned dollar, how long it\'s going to take, and what to expect when you receive your re-conditioned drivers. I invite you to review my response, and visit my website [link removed by ] facebook [link removed by ] for more details, photos, and customer reviews.

Has the quality of sound from yourBose® Speakersdeteriorated? Do they buzz, pop or sound distorted? This is probably due to \"Foam Rot\". A simple inspection of the drivers will reveal this. Many Speaker Manufacturersstarting from the mid 70s used Polyurethane Foam Surrounds. Originally believed to last 15 years, these foam surrounds began to deteriorate in as little as 5 years depending on where and how they were operated. Once the foam has deteriorated, the speaker cones are no longer air tight and held in the correct position and the voice coils may begin to rub, or even short out.

There is only one correct way to replace the surrounds. It is a multi-step process which includes removal of the old fiber gaskets, foam surround, and dust cap, centering and repositioning the cone, shimming the voice coil, and correct repositioning of the spider. This step, positioning the spider, is often overlooked by novices and pro-re-builders. As the spider ages, it tends to collapse inward towards the magnet. If the spider is not positioned correctly during the gluing process, cone travel will be adversely affected. The new premium polyether surround is then centered and glued to the cone and basket. Lastly, the shims are removed, cone travel is inspected, either new or salvaged dust caps are installed and dressed, and the original salvaged fiber gasket, if equipped is then re-installed. A final check using sweep test tones is performed. All of these steps are required to restore your drivers to factory original condition. Some will skip several of these steps, I do not.

I now offer Lifetime Treated Cloth Surrounds in lieu of Polyether Foam. These new surrounds will outlast any foam currently made. Please ask about special pricing for this option. Unlike rubber surrounds which will affect the performance of the woofer, and harden with age, these cloth surrounds are exact duplicates of the original foam, and will not alter the sound or performance of the woofers.

Note: Some Bose® woofers have unique domed dust caps, while other have conventional convex paper or mesh. Where possible, I try and re-use the domed caps to maintain the original look. Otherwise conventional convex paper caps will be installed. In all cases, the existing (and non-functional) fiber gasket will be salvaged and re-used if possible. If the gasket is not salvageable, your woofer will be sent back without it. These gaskets serve no purpose, since Bose® \"front mounts\" all their woofers.

Cone lacquering is also availablefree of charge. Lacquering the cone strengthens and preserves it, provides environmental protection, moisture resistance, anddoes not add any measurableweight to the cone, unlike some other coatings. This process is highly recommended for early 301s and 601s since their cones are 30+ years old now (they are paper after all). Cone lacquering is also believed to reduce distortion. Please indicate when purchasing if you would like this done.

I now offer Re-Coning Services for most Bose® modelsdating back to the early 70s, as well as most other makes and models. This service includes a new voice coil, spider, cone and polyether surround. YourBose® wooferswill be essentially new when completed. Please contact me for additional information and pricing.

Why choose me over some others? I\'m a Bose® owner, and have been for over 35 years. I\'ve owned many different Bose® systems. I\'ve re-edged literally hundreds of 301s, 601s, 802s and 901s, as well asother brands, and know the correct procedures that will ensure many more years of service. Buy with confidence. Read my response, and see what others have said about my re-edging services.

Thislisting is for labor and materials for servicing one 8\" woofer. I offer acombined discount for multiple woofers, so please contact me before purchasing for special pricing and buying instructions. Removal and re-installation in the cabinets is NOT included, nor is shipping the woofer(s) to me. Return shipping and insurance will be determined, based on distance and the number of woofers. You pay the actual shipping cost. I don\'t charge a handling fee.

I can usually re-edge a \"Botched\" re-foam job, providing the cone, dust cap and voice coil weren\'t damaged the 1st time around. There are additional steps involved, so contact me for special pricing.

FAQS:

Q: Why don\'t you offer newer Butyle or Nitrile rubber surrounds?

A: The Newer Rubber surrounds will alter the compliance and performance of the driver in unpredictable ways, beyond the original design. All well made speaker enclosures are designed with certain driver/woofer parameters know as Theile Small or simply T/S. These Parameters are used to properly size the enclosures. Rubber also dries out, hardens and cracks over time.

Q: I\'m not mechanically inclined, and I\'m afraid I\'ll screw something up trying to remove and re-install the drivers.

A: Don\'t worry, you don\'t have to be an electrical engineer to do this, in fact the only tools you\'ll need are a Phillips and Flat Screwdriver, as well as good pair of needle nose pliers. Getting the grills off undamaged is harder than the actual driver replacement.

Q: Why don\'t you include shipping in the price?

A: Many people have a favorite shipper due to convenience or price. Some have discounts through their workplace. UPS® and FedEx® offer discounts for many businesses and retired former employees. In addition, both UPS® and FedEx® allow prepaid return shipping labels to be inserted in the package.

I have customers all over the US and other countries.There\'s no way I could possibly calculate the shipping, insurance, customs, and VAT fees for every Country.

Q: Why should I choose you over other speaker repair companies?

A: I\'m a Bose® owner, and have been for over 35 years. I\'ve re-edged hundreds Bose® models. My prices are competitive and usually much less than what the on-line retailers charge, and most don\'t offer precision voice coil alignment, and new dust caps. I invite you to compare my prices to any on-line repair company. There are about half a dozen well known reputable companies. Make sure you get an apples to apples quote, and make sure they include Premium Polyether surrounds, voice coil/spider alignment, new dust caps, and full sweep testing. I guarantee you\'ll be shocked when you get their price.

Q: How long does the Re-Foam take, what\'s the turnaround time?

A: Normally, the entire process takes7-10 days, depending on my workload, it\'s \"first in, first out\". This does not include shipping/transit times both ways, nor any acts of god and nature, which we New Englanders have had our share of this year. I always have sufficient stock on hand for the Re-foaming Service.

Please see my other listings, my store: my website: [link removed by ], or contact me directly for further information on additional products and services for Bose owners.

Important! There are others on advertising a similar service. In addition, there are several on-line speaker repair companies that do the same. I invite you to review my response, and compare them to others. I give a full, detailed description of everything I do, others do not. I use only premium polyether replacement foam. If you\'re still not convinced, drop a note to any of my previous customers. Ask THEM about the quality of my work, communication before, during and after, and most importantly the performance of their speakers after the re-edge.

Buyer is responsible for all shipping and insurance costs both ways. This listing is for USA, all 50 States and certain possessions. For my friends in Canada, return shipping arrangements can be made, so please contact me directly for any additional fees. No other international services are offered.
