We have to offer a seldom seen Western cure bottle from San Jose California. Embossing reads: “THE SPECIFIC / A NO 1 / A SELF CURE / TRADE MARK” all across the face. It was hand blown into a two part mold in aqua colored glass, circa early 1890s. Size is 5” tall x 2-1/8” wide. Excellent, cleaned condition with NO: chips, cracks, nicks, scratches, stain or repairs. These are fairly rare as I’ve seen few over the years. A nice old cure bottle from the Old West.

Augustus G. Schoenheit, journeyed to California from Germany in 1853, sailing from New York and crossing the Isthmus of Panama on foot. After arriving in San Francisco, he mined for gold in Coloma, Sonora, and Big Oak Flat. After 1854, he moved to San Jose and became a clerk in a drugstore. Eighteen months later, he bought the store and called it City Drug Store. Later, the name became State Pioneer Pharmacy.“That Wondrous / Liniment / San Jose” another scarce bottle, was Schoenheit\'s best seller and was \"the result of three years\' experimenting in this country and in Europe. It was \"just the ticket\" for backaches, headaches, rheumatism, sprains, sore throat, colds, cramps, cholera-morbus,and convulsions. Schoenheit’s, “The Specific A No. 1, A Self Cure, was patented on Jan. 28, 1890. He also had a \"Non-poisonous Corn Cure\", sarsaparilla, cough cure, and medical lozenge.
