WELCOME and thanks for stopping by.OK, that\'s as far as the black goes. Because this large 9 3/8 inch early (basement/crawl space found) TANKER mold Dr. J.HOSTETTER\'S STOMACH BITTERS shows some VERY nice color with some light behind it and it definitely isn\'t yournormal/average black glass example. The color is looking even better than what the photos are showing it to be. It\'s more of a lighter shade of olive and veryclose to the color of this text. BUT,.... I\'ve been noticing a few black glass examples recently, thoughnone of those, in my opinion, can shine a light on this beautiful piece. BOLDLY embossed and just very crude with plenty of bubbles and dimply glass inun-dug/not tumbled, original condition. There\'s a fold line on the left side panel that ends in the center of the front left chamfered corner and there\'s also a 1/4 or so area ofwhere some glass had squeezed its way through the mold seam and that can be seen in pic # 10. Even the base itself is very crude looking with two raised dots in the recess and it\'s not even a perfectly square bottle, because from one panel to opposing panel measures 3 inchesand then the other panels have a distance apart of 3 1/8 inches. The bottle, as good as it may lookin the photos, is even BETTER in person and I want to make sure that you\'re aware that those are not groundlines going around the upper third of the bottle. What you\'re seeing are the striated lines that form asa result of the gather of molten glass being swirled/twisted around the end of the blow pipe before it goes intothe mold and gets inflated. I\'m not seeing any scratches, or any other condition problems on this bottle. Only a very slight touch of minimal wear, which is to be expected on a bottle this old with a couple areas of a little dampness staining. It\'s definitely nothing detracting, and personally, I wouldn\'t run the risk of having this bottle tumbled because I really don\'t feel that it\'s warranted.But if it should bother you that much, then you might decide to opt for a very light pro cleaning.Not that my say has anything to do with it after it gets handed over to the new owner, but I wouldadvise against cleaning this ORIGINAL, un-altered beauty of a bitters bottle. So please be sure to view all 12 photos carefully, as they too are to be considered as part ofthe description. This is a KILLER, top shelf example of an early Civil War era Hostetter\'s in a much better than averagecolor which passes light very nicely and I KNOW that the winning buyer is going to be VERY happy to receive this one and add it to their collection.
