UPDATE:Sorry I keep having to revise this listing. I was told by an appraiser he thought it was a male witch. Now I\'ve been told it\'s a Chimney Sweep.
I am very proud yet saddened to list this doll. I\'ve had it for a long time and if it wasn\'t necessary to sell I wouldn\'t. It was taken to the appraisers years ago and they were amazed at this little doll. They called it a rare doll and gave it a nice price. It is a 5.25\" wooden peg doll from the late 1700 to early 1800\'s and the appraiser believed to be dressed in the form of a male witch but now I believe it to be a Chimney Sweep. It is wearing all black wool clothing. The clothing is deteriorating but still wonderful it has it\'s original clothes. It is wearing black wool pants, a top and a hood and has a broom. All the clothes are made of hand woven wool The broom\'s bristles are made of the same wool material and the handle is painted wood. It was sewn to the shirt sleeve and had to come off when I removed the clothing. The clothing was sewn on. I\'m leaving the clothes off and the new owner can sew them back on as I\'m sure you want to inspect her unclothed before putting them back on. Fully jointed at arms, elbow, hips and knees. Painted with what we believe to be old gesso and paint? I don\'t know what else to describe so please look carefully at the pictures as they are the most important part of the description. I\'m hoping a collector gets this little rare doll and gives it a permanent home. Please message with any questions.
