1889 Blair Mahogany & Cherry Wood Plate Camera * Near Mint Victorian Era Antique:
$960.00

Make sure to check out all of my sales after you\'ve looked at this one. I\'m listing another eclectic selection of antiques and collectibles, and I suspect that there will be something of interest to just about everybody.Here\'s a beautiful, impeccably appointed 120-year-old camera manufactured by Boston\'s Blair Camera Co, an early camera builder best known for its \"Hawk-Eye\" line of detective cameras but seldom associated with high end plate cameras such as this one. Made of polished mahogany and cherry, with beautifully crafted tongue-in-groove joints, the 5 x 7 camera features nickel-plated brass fittings and a reversible back that can be oriented either vertically, for portraits, or horizontally, for landscapes. The camera comes with a Turnbull\'s double-slide plate holder that fits snugly inside the back and whose wood finish matches that of the camera.
Condition of the camera is near mint throughout. The wood is furniture quality, and the wood\'s finish is original. Original fittings and hardware are clean, their plating is original, and their patina is just what you\'d expect, and just what you\'d want, from a late 1800\'s antique. Ground glass is in excellent condition, with no damage, and the lens is clear. With sufficient lighting the lens will throw a clear, crisp image against the glass back. The bellows appear to be light tight, and I suspect that if you\'re inclined to use the camera for vintage photography, it won\'t let you down. The camera folds up nicely and looks beautiful from any angle.
This is a fine Victorian Era camera that looks great on a shelf or mounted to a tripod. And the wood, brass and nickel-plating are pristine. The plate holder mounts snugly to the back of the camera, and it retains both of its original slides.
Shipping weight will be about 14 lb.That\'s about it. I will pack it carefully and properly. sale participants with no prior response history or with hidden response should contact me before placing a offer. Buyer prepays and includes shipping.
