I\'m listing another eclectic assortment of antiques and collectibles, and I suspect there will be something to interest just about everyone.Here\'s a gorgeous 5 x 8 Rochester Optical \"Favorite\" plate camera manufactured in the late 1890\'s. The camera is in near mint condition, with virtually no signs of wear.
It\'s an amazing find.As you can see in the photographs, the camera appears to be almost new, though in fact it\'s almost 120 years old. There are no cracks in the wood, no repairs, not even any significant finish wear. The bellows appear to be light tight, the lens is undamaged, and the stop disc, which allows you to change the aperture setting, turns easily in the brass lens barrel. The barrel exhibits light tarnish, but no corrosion or rust. No dings in the barrel either, and its patina is authentic. It has not been polished. The lens throws a crisp image against the ground glass focusing plate, which is original and undamaged. All brass fittings are original and in excellent condition.The mahogany camera body retains its original finish, which is nearly perfect, with no wear, no crazing, no issues. A few minor marks here and there, but nothing of significance. Tongue in groove joints are all tightly glued, with no expansion gaps or other aging artifacts.
The cherry base/focusing rail also retains its original finish, which is in excellent condition. There\'s no splintering in the base, nor are there any repairs. The camera folds up quickly and easily, and the body slides easily along the rail, allowing the camera to be focused with minimal effort.
