Postcard from the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition aka Saint Louis World\'s Fair at St. Louis Missouri showing \"Education and Social Economy Building\". Color printed, undivided back, unused 1904.Size is 3.3” x 5.5”. Condition is excellent, rich fresh color. Publishedby the Samuel Cupples Envelope Company copyright 1903. There are 10postcards in this set, and it has the blue back and the cards are not numbered. It is listed inMegson’s wonderful reference book “American Exposition Postcards 1870-1920” atpage 57, design GI114.

The St. Louis World’s Fair of 1904 was officially titled theLouisiana Purchase Exposition, and was held in Saint Louis Missouri. It opened April 30, 1904 and closed December 1, 1904. It had beenplanned to open in 1903 to celebrate thecentennial of the Louisiana Purchase, but was postponedto 1904 to accommodate more exhibitors. Attendancewas 19,694,855 persons, a massive number.There were 62 foreign countries and 43 states exhibits, and over 50concession-type amusements on the “Pike”.The fair’s site contained 1,200 acres, which today are part of Forest Park and the campus of Washington University. The 1904Summer Olympics had been awarded to Chicago, but were reallocated to the St. Louis World’s Fair, thus becoming the first Olympics to beheld in the United States.
