Stunning 1936 RCA Model 9T-10 Tombstone Radio 9 Tubes Tuning Eye, Solid Cabinet
Up for sale is a 1936 RCA radio. This is a radio that doesn\'t come up for sale very often and when it does often has significant cabinet damage and/or doesn\'t work at all.
It has a total of 9 tubes in a cabinet that is 22\" high by 17\" wide and 12\"deep. Thiswas one of their Magic Brain radios, there was only one other RCA radio that year that had a higher tube count.
I slowly brought the line voltage up and it does receive stations on the AM band, I did not check the shortwave bands. There is substantial power supply hum, so the electrolytic capacitors need to be replaced. The paper capacitors also need to be checked/replaced.
The original speaker appears to be undamaged (I did not remove it from the cabinet), no cone damage is visible and it sounds good. Allcomponents appear to be original. The RCA jack on the left side of the back chassis is connected to the toggle switch next to it, I think that was added on by the original owner. The right RCA jack is not connected to anything. One of the 2dial lamps is loose (it had a sheetmetal clip that has broken off). It could be repaired or replaced fairly easily.
The cabinet is very solid (see photos). The glue joints are strong the outside veneer appears to be undamaged and I don\'t see edge damage to veneer that is common on older radios. The finish appears to have been worked on sometime in the past. The work was well done and adds to the radio, the different wood grain patterns that show up are unusually nice. The top has a rougher feel/look than the the rest of the radio. Other than a light dusting, I did not apply any oil or wax to the cabinet. It is in the condition it was in when I purchased it 2 years ago.
It still has the original dial glass, the dial is faded (see photos), a reproduction dial is available from radiodaze.
The grill cloth is original and is in excellent shape. The knobs are original.
Two of the four chassis bolts are missing and I will replace them with new bolts/washers to protect the radio during shipment.
See my seller response comments which show theaccuracy of my descriptions and my care in packaging.
I will ship using a combination of bubblewrap, soft shipping foam and styrofoam as required to safety deliver the radio to the sale winner. Shipping cost reflects the size of the box, the shipping weight (40+ lbs). Local pickup is ok.
