1935 Sparton Model 566 Bluebird Tube Radio - STUNNING COND.:
$4239.89

Folks, these don\'t come up for sale very often, and not in this condition. It would be a real shame to not win this sale and have this radio displayed with your collection, in your office, or a certain conversation piece in your Living Room, Beach House or Other.
This thing has survived Kids, Wars, Adults, and maybe even Earthquakes. YOU MAY NEVER FIND ONE IN THIS SUPERB CONDITION. offer TO WIN IT.
NOTE: The Plateau (or Blue Mirror Platter) that the radio sits on was an option in 1935 and was rarely purchased with the radio. This one has the original Blue Mirror Plateau with the original felt bottom. The Radio and the Plateau will each be double-boxed and shipped separately from each other to ensure safety.
IMPORTANT - It\'s made of Blue Mirror so it naturally reflects everything (flash, objects in room, me) so please understand when I say that there are NO imperfections or blemishes on the Radio Mirror, Plateau Mirror or the Chrome Lines, Ring or Knobs. I took several pics at different angles so you could see that reflections are just that. The front Chrome parts are not \"Gold\" or \"Brown\" as some pics depict. They are indeed polished chrome and they\'re all in perfect condition.
Here are the few things to point out - again, it\'s 80+ Years Old - There is a 1.5\" Long by .75\" tall (Horz. L-Shaped) tear in the (Orig.) grill cloth that looks as if it was stitched to stay in place (not by me). From a few feet back it just looks like a discoloration in the cloth. On the left side of the wooden radio cabinet, there are three tiny chips in the paint. I could have dabbed with flat black paint or sharpie but I have not made any changes to the radio since I purchased it over 8 years ago and wanted to keep it that way. Cord in back is rolled up into the radio and in-tact. I have not plugged it in and find no need to do so for a AM radio made in 1935.
I\'d prefer to have the buyer pick-up in person. But, I will ship to you in the continental U.S. Buyer to pay the Actual Shipping Cost for Both Boxes and Insurance to cover the cost of your winning offer. I will pack them as if I we\'re the one receiving them. Shipping will be FedEx Ground UNLESS, you want them shipped via Next Day FedEx. It\'s your call since you\'re paying for the shipping.
Sorry for any Tpyos! :)
Here\'s some great info about the radio and you can find much more info online at:
The info was found on tuberadioland DOT COM or just search Sparton 566 Bluebird on the web.The celebrated Sparton \"Bluebird\" 566 glass mirrorradio was one of a group of Sparton sets for 1936styled by the noted industrial designer Walter DorwinTeague. The first four of these sets was unveiled at the National Electrical & Radio Exposition held in NewYork\'s Grand Central Palace during September of1935, following several months of tantalizing build up in the media. Prior to the show, Sparks-Withington an-nounced that their 1936 line would consist of two lines;the regular line already introduced that June and the\"sensational\" Teague line, which was to be unveiled atthe Sparton show exhibit on September 18th 1935.
The Bluebird, with its bold and daring use of crystalglass, ebony and chrome, is today universally recog-nized as one of the true masterpieces of the 1930s ArtDeco radio movement. It comprises a 14\" circular mirr-or of \"midnight blue\" glass accented with chrome stripsand circlets, concealing a cab containing the chassis. The mirror has a cut-out for the loudspeaker and dialand the set sits upon a pair of ebony balled feet.
The Teague portfolio for 1936 also included the highlycoveted Nocturne, truly one of the holy grails of radiocollecting. Teague is also credited with having design-ed or inspired the creation of several more fabulousSparton radios offered over the course of the nextseveral years, including the models 557, 558 & 409.The Bluebird is occasionally seen today sitting atop amatching 14\" round plateau mirror. Early advertisingalmost always shows the Bluebird with this mirrorpresent. However it originally had to be orderedseparately and most sets today turn up without it.
The original purchase price of the Bluebird, based uponnewspaper advertising, was $39.95 in eastern andcentral regions. The plateau was extra.
