Here we have a 1938 Crosley ‘Fiver’Model B-587-A table radio. This beautiful set features a gorgeous walnutcabinet, mirror dial which creates stunning reflections and 3D like effect, great Art Deco appeal, and excellent performance.

Another unique feature on this set is that itoffered two options for operation. The first option is your standard 110 voltelectrical outlet operation. But in 1938 many rural areas were still withoutelectricity so Crosley offered a battery option by simply connecting to a 6volt battery source. They proudly boasted this feature by advertising it on thefront of their dial!

Cabinet:The tombstone style walnut cabinet is simplygorgeous. Beautiful wood grain flows throughout the entire set. Stylish roundedsides, coupled with the attractive grill, makes for a classic Art Deco look.Everything comes together magnificently with the amazing mirror dial. It isquite the sight to behold, especially in a bright room, or near a window, wherethe sun reflects off of it. Dark walnut trim and tones finish the cabinet offperfectly. This highly desirable radio is sure to be the main attraction in anyroom of the home or office you choose to display it in.

Dial/Knobs:The mirror dial is simply amazing. One of the mostattractive dials any radio has to offer. It is designed with a gold mirrorback, coupled with a protruding glass front, which displays all the stationfrequencies and Crosley ‘Fiver’ emblem in reverse paint. This causes amagnificent 3D like effect with spectacular reflections. Especially in a brightroom. The dial glass and mirror have been polished and are in excellentcondition showing little signs of wear. Both knobs are perfect and work as theyshould; on/off & volume and tuning.

Grill Cloth: The 1930’s stylegrill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring an antiquegold color with aminiature diamond design. This grill cloth can also be purchased separately onour other sales.

Electronics/Chassis: All tubes in the 5 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. The battery and old battery components have beenremoved to allow for safe operation on normal 110 volt electricity only. With the included copper line antenna the radio performs very well on the AM broadcast band with mellow tone and plenty of volume.

Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of thewood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this byremoving all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinetwith fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishesare filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any fillerapplied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beautyof the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand.We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied inthe same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. Weuse a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLPturbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer isvery thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep intothe grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coatalong with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours ofwork are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is abeautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radiosare a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as wellas listen to, in any room of the home or office.
