Here we offer one of thesharpest tombstone radios the 1930’s had to offer. A stunning 1936 Climax featuringa gorgeous dark walnut tombstone cabinet, spectacular backlit dial with mesmerizing3D effect, great Art Deco appeal, and outstanding performance on both the AMbroadcast and shortwave bands.

Cabinet:The dark walnut cabinet is simply stunning. It is aclassic tombstone style design with rounded sides with an eye catching swirledgrain front. The quality, thickness and sturdiness of the cabinet were proud craftsmanshiptrademarks of the small, but high end, Climax Radio Company. They boasted thiswith a four star rating plate which still remains on the back of the cabinet. Alarge Art Deco grill not only looks great but allows for optimal sound from thespeaker. It all comes together perfectly with large backlit dial which is oneof the coolest designed dials you will come across. You’ll be the envy of allwith this masterpiece proudly displayed in any room of your home or office.

Dial/Knobs:You’ll be hard pressed to find a cooler looking dialthan this beauty. Illuminated by two dial lamps, it features an array of colorsfrom green and blue, yellow and red, to black and white. It is designed with arecessed rear dial which displays the tone, volume, and band indicators alongwith the Climax logo. The reverse etched dial glass displays the AM andShortwave scales. The tuning indicator is suspended right in the center betweenthe two. This creates a magnificent 3D effect with mesmerizing depth that ismatched by no other. All letters and numbers on the dial are legible and showvery little signs of wear. All four knobs are in perfect shape and still retainthe Climax logo. The knobs control the following; tone, band switch, tuning, and on/off & volume. Small dial pointers on the rear portion of the dialmove as you control the tone, band switch, and volume. The loud, medium, & softvolume pointer has some slippage but does affect the performance in any way.

Grill Cloth: The 1930’s stylegrill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring aclassicwhiskey color with aminiature geometric design. This grill cloth can also be purchased separately onour other sales.

Electronics/Chassis: All tubes in the 6 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. With the included copper line antenna the radio performs very well on the AM broadcast and shortwave bands. I\'m able to receive stations, near and far, with deep rich tone and room filling volume.

Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of thewood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this byremoving all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinetwith fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishesare filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any fillerapplied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beautyof the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand.We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied inthe same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. Weuse a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLPturbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer isvery thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep intothe grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coatalong with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. During the restoration process on this radio, a couple of small repairs were made to a couple of grill bars. All has been filled and blended as to not detract from the beauty of the set. Many hours ofwork are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is abeautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radiosare a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as wellas listen to, in any room of the home or office.
