Here we have an absolutely stunning1936 Airline model 62-425 table radio. Nicknamed ‘The Indian Head’, due to thegrill resembling an Indian with a headdress of feathers, this beauty offers agorgeous American walnut cabinet, brightly lit dial, great Art Deco appeal, andoutstanding performance.

Cabinet:The American walnut cabinet is a real beauty. Gorgeouswood grain flows throughout the entire set. The true Art Deco design is quiteunique from other table radios from the era and the ‘Indian Head’ grill reallycatches your eye. It all comes together magnificently when powered up and thedial lights nice and bright with a warm orange glow. Jet black trim and pinstripe inlays finish the cabinet off perfectly. A real head turner no matterwhich room in the home or office you choose to display it in.

Dial/Knobs:The round airplane style dial is a real looker. Backlit by a new dial lamp, it lights nice and bright with a warm orange glow. Allletters and numbers are legible and show virtually no signs of wear. The dialglass is clear and free from any chips, breaks, or cracks as is the surroundingescutcheon. Both knobs are perfect and work as follows; on/off & volume andtuning.

Grill Cloth: The 1930’s stylegrill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a mochacolor with aminiature diamond design. This grill cloth can also be purchased separately onour other sales.

Electronics/Chassis: All tubes in the 5 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. With the included copper line antenna the radio performs exceptionally well on the AM broadcast band with sensitive reception, nice tone, and plenty of volume.

The Cabinet’s Finish & Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinets undergo avigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of thewood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this byremoving all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinetwith fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishesare filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any fillerapplied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beautyof the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand.We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied inthe same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. Weuse a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLPturbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer isvery thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep intothe grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coatalong with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. During the restoration process on this radio a small veneer chip was filled and blended on the left front of the cabinet. Nothing that detracts from the beauty of the set. Many hours ofwork are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is abeautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radiosare a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as wellas listen to, in any room of the home or office.
