1888 Scovill 8x10 Wood Folding View Camera with Case -
8x10 Folding View camera complete with lens, wood case, two film holders, focal plane shutter, and focusing cloth. The camera uses a unique folding arrangement that allows it to be folded into a very compact space for travel. The camera unfolded measures approx 12\" high x 13\" wide x 15 1/4 long without the focal plane shutter installed. When folded it measures approx 12\" x 13\" x 3 3/4\". I have shown the can of soda as a size reference. (Soda not included!) The bellows appear to be in excellent condition. The brass lens unscrews for folding. The lens measures approx 2\" in diameter x 2 1/2\" long. The front edge is bent slightly on one side. There is a unique rotating disk to set the f-stop, with the options being F60, F35, F25, F20 and F15. The lens is marked \"Waterbury Lens, Scovill Mfg Co., New York\". There is a focal plane shutter attachment marked \"Focal Plane, Patent, Thorton-Packard\". It measures approx 11 3/4 x 11 3/4 x 1 5/8 thick. As you can see in the photo, the \"slot\" is no longer even as it has come loose on one side, and I can see the small tab of fabric that used to hold it together. There are two 8x10 wood film holders that are marked \"PAT JANY 27, 88\" which is why I am using that date for the camera, although I do not know the exact date of the camera. There is also a small silver plate on the back of the camera that is marked \"Sold By Buchanan, Bromley & Co. Philadelphia\". The wood carrying case holds everything, including the focal plane shutter, and it measures approx 9 3/4 x 14 1/2 x 14 high. The wood carrying case does have some cracks and marks from many decades of use and storage.
