Well, got this one by mistake--my old ASUS ATX board died. This has ATX power; however, front panel and ALL fan headers are DELL proprietary ones. 1st reaction--sent damn thing back. On the 2nd thought, decided to give it a try. Surprisingly, this is doable. If you are in the same boat, try the following: GOOGLE "Dell fan pinout" Search e-bay for "Dell Optiplex 990 front panel" Search e-bay for "Dell Optiplex 990 temperature sensor" Total cost is $16+$5+$5 is still much cheaper than $70 ATX mobo for my i5 LGA 1155--cheapest more-or-lees reliable alternative ;-)

If you have a Sandy Bridge processor and need a reasonable solution for motherboard, this is it. Be aware this is a genuine service part from Dell so the first time you boot this machine you're going to have to enter service tag data. The only other quirk is that if you don't have all the proprietary Dell connectors it can be a little bit of an issue, but just press F1 and it will continue booting. This motherboard is a solid performer and very stable, definitely worth the investment and at a reasonable cost. If you're doing a direct replacement for an OptiPlex 990, this is the place to buy from.

A good older MB for the money to replace a bad one. Has proprietary connectors thanks to Dell. Hard to use generically.

Dell makes the best computers in my opinion- The Optiplex 990 is quiet, low powered and has an i7. This particular setup is good in a SOHO environment. I make no bones about preferring the T7500 for work but the smaller brother is easier to live with.
