Upgraded to the dual band router N7300 by Netgear. Replaced a 4 yr old Netgear router, the installation was the same except both the 2.4 & 5G band have seperate settings. Either one can be set as the Guest band. From the WiFi view point, only new AC compatible computer and devices can see/access the 5G band. With five in home users, the two 5G users have seen a performance boost with 5G. The 2.4 band user have no issues to comment on. The only two issues the I found were the large size of router and the bright flashing lights compared to the smaller router being replaced.

This is a bit overpriced at a list price of 249.99 but if you can get it on sale or used it's a powerful router. There are 4 hardwired ports, one regular USB and one USB 3.0 port. I purchased this because my router/modem combo only provided wi-fi in the living room--this unit fills every inch of my one bedroom apartment with wi-fi without needing the signal extender. I can even access my wi-fi from the laundrey room--so making sure your network is secured with a strong password is a must. I've been streaming hi-def video from an external hard drive connected to the USB 3.0 port to my Roku without any glitches. One downside if you are a tech geek is that you cannot install third party firmware like dd-wrt as this specific model is not supported. The unit also has a rather large footprint, so be prepared to clear some space on your desk for it. Another potential downside is that the Qos is basically useless unless your internet speed is very predictable. It requires a max speed to be entered rather than simply giving priority to specific programs or equipment (i.e. a streaming device). The problem is that if you set the speed too high QOS does nothing and if you set it too low QOS will throttle your speed. I've found QOS useless with my Comcast service but also unnecessary as the Nighthawk supports multiple devices simultaneously without any hiccups. All in all I am very happy with this purchase.Read full review

Great route! It's blazing fast! I've got about 10-15 devices connected to this router with no drop in internet speed, and the network extender is an excellent bonus for dead spots.

The router is working great now. When first installed, it would not connect to my computer at all. I pressed the reset with no luck and tried different methods of connecting it to my computer. I called geeksquad per the manual. The lady I talked to was real nice but did not have a clue how to fix my problem. I then typed my problem into my browser and within a couple of minutes found the fix. The reset has to be held for up to 10 seconds or until the power button starts flashing for the reset to work. After doing a proper reset, the router connected to my computer and the rest of the set up was easy. The router is now working great and handles numerous devices very well.

previous router was stating to fail so upgraded to AC1900 standard. so glad it did! the Netgear was very easy to set up and has preformed better than expected. i live in a 1200sqft apt. there are lots of other networks around me. i have had no connection issues or performance problems in the month i have had this router. i have comcast blast (75mb) and the wifi is as fast as a wired connection. i have not used the DST adapter since the signal reached the whole apt. very happy!
