If the majority of your time spent on the computer is text (documents and e-mail) and surfing the internet, and your old monitor is a CRT, this is a good first step into the world of LCDs. Its widescreen proportions (1680 x 1050) allow you to view two Word documents side by side. Pictures, downloaded videos and websites in general look fine. All of the text is crisp and clear. The adjustable stand makes it easy to optimize the viewing angle for your height and there is no problem viewing it in bright ambient light. The on-screen menu to adjust its settings is not the most easy to navigate but it is pretty simple to figure out. If you can get this monitor as a Dell refurb, that's the best way to get a great price and the assurance that it performs up to spec. Overall, it is a monitor worth considering.Read full review
It's a very good monitor and I have been using for couple of months now. The one it replaced was also a Dell LCD monitor but that died after a normal power spike/outage in my house (in spite of a surge protector)! Very simple and easy to install right out of the box. The wide screen is great for running applications and the graphics are very sharp. Would recommend, it's sleek and looks very nice. Only worried about power surge/outage and keeping my fingers crossed regarding that ;(
Widescreen display is not ideal for internet surfing and day to day use if you ask me. I prefer the traditional 4:3 format (square) I found all websites were squished and it was difficult to navigate. I am not a gamer so this has bearing. I would not recommend a widescreen for any typical home user. A gamer of course would love this screen due to the larger width. The screen quality is excellent when put in optimal widescreen resolutions. It's a good solid display, however Dell's are known to randomly DIE as my 2006 1905FP just did. I strongly recommend a 3 year warranty!
I only rated this as good more for personal preference reasons than anything. I knew the screen was going to be wider, that is what I bought, but I did not care for the way it shrunk all the print compared to my original settings. I know that I can change some settings to get things back to a viewable size that I prefer, but I did not expect that I would have to do that. I thought that I was just going to get a wider view of the same settings as my old monitor. Other than that the monitor is terrific. It is easy to assemble, and easy to plug in. I think most anyone that gets this monitor will be pleased with it.
I have a desktop from dell with this monitor and wanted to add it to my laptop docking station. I love the stand and swivel base it also can have a speaker attached across the bottom. Excellent picture quality and speed. I don't really dislike anything about it. I suppose I only wish it was bigger sometimes, but still a lot better to look at than the laptop display. I use dual desktop display and with the Vista premium OS the portability and ease of moving from our server based office to our wireless home is so tranparent I don't even have to log off. The display makes it easier to use as a desktop workstation at work. We use a full dell keyboard and mouse with the docking stations as well as tying in printers, scanners and other devices with the docking station and using a Cat-5 network cable connection vs wireless.Read full review
