this hard drive is nicely quiet (a lot quieter than my last hard drive). when everything else is silent i can just barely hear it working. i think most value oriented hard drives are about this quiet. i'm just saying it's not loud at all. as for speed, it seems like it is quite a bit faster than my last hard drive also. i don't have much to compare it to for speed, my only other laptop hdd seems to be much slower than it should be. this one is the speed i expect a value hdd should be.
Excelent performance. This Travelstar drive delivers top of the line performance and reliability with a 5,400 RPM spindle speed and 8 MB buffer. This hard drive is an ideal solution for added storage space, and is best in its class for low power consumption. The Hitachi Travelstar 5K100 series delivers a winning combination of characteristics. With the industry's lowest idle power and enhancements to the mechanical and electrical design, this 5400 RPM drive is the ideal choice for notebook PCs. The Travelstar 5K100, at100GB, offers the highest capacity in a 2.5" 5400 RPM drive. That, along with 300G of operating shock and 1000G of non-operating shock, makes Travelstar 5K100 the best all-around 2.5 hard drive. The Travelstar 5K100 is the centerpiece of a new line-up of strong contenders.
I enjoy restoring computers, buying the majority of my parts here on eBay. I started buying the Hitachi hard drives because I could usually get them cheaper than the Western Digital or Seagate drives. After using them for four or five years now with only loosing one to a virus, they have earned my respect. They're quiet, perform well, and are usually cheaper than the more well known hard drives. Always have a good antivirus, anti-malware, keep it defraged, and it will last years. Happy Computing
Nice normal hard drive to fit my old Toshiba Laptop nice price and quick delivery
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
I used this to speed up an old gateway Solo 1450 from 2002. It is fast enough to run either Windows 2000 or XP quite well. If you are looking to reuse an older laptop, this can be a viable option sense many of the laptops from that time shipped with smaller, slower 4200 RPM drives.
