A must have for PCI-3 slot installed M.2 NVMe SSDs
This M.2 NVMe SSD to PCI-e slot fan cooled adapter is just perfect for hot running M.2 NVMe SSds. I am using it to adapt a Samsung SM 951 which is the forerunner of the 950 PRO. These were used as OEM drives by various manufacturers and is a better performing drive than the 950 Pro, but it runs hot. It will reach 57 degrees C under heavy read and write usage. Installed in this adapter it runs about 39 degrees C under usage and will spike to a max of 43 degrees C under long read situations. If your BIOS allows booting from the PCI-e bus, then you can boot from this adapter. The design is simple. It uses a standard easily replaceable fan with a 3 pin plug and it has a speed controller. It comes with all the screws that you need. I am running it at about half speed and it is quiet. It is a 4 ... It makes so sense to pay a lot more for an expensive adapter with a heat sink or to save a few bucks for an adapter with no cooling solution, when this adapter provides all that you need at a very reasonable price. Even if your new board has an on board M.2 NVME slot, using this in a PCI-e slot will allow the M.2 to run a lot cooler then if it is on the board. On my Intel Z170 board test speeds are identical whether the M.2 SSD is on the board or in the adapter and running from the PCI-e slot. Buy this and go find a bargain on a Samsung SM 951 512 MB or use it with any M.2 NVMe SSD to keep it cool. It makes a lightning fast working drive for video and photo editing at a low price.
