I have a gaming rig set up with an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 and a GTX560Ti. Maybe not the latest and greatest machine, but the speed boost I experienced was truly remarkable. Since my motherboard doesn't support SATA3 anyway, the Vertex 2 was the way to go. Using it as my boot drive and storing all my games on a separate HDD made everything faster, not to mention cooler, in my pc. Furthermore, it just looks cool. Not all SSDs come with a black metal finish... I went as far as to install it so that it can be seen clearly from the window on the side of my computer tower! And with the red lighting it truly looks impressive. Summing it up! Pros: incredible speed (compared to a HDD); doesn't heat up; looks slick and cool; comes with it's own adapter to install in a normal HDD bay. Cons: the screw holes on the sides are a little short, meaning that the screws you'll have to use will have to be rather short too. Final verdict: definitely the best upgrade I could buy at the bargain price of 75$ used (in perfect conditions)! I don't think I will ever go back to a HDD as a main drive. And with the prices of SSDs falling, I would definitely recommend it!Read full review
Oh man this is the sweetest thing I ever bought!!! it´s read speed are amazing, im getting 200mb a sec...i know the package says 285 but im doing real life tests. It boots up ubuntu 10.10 in only 5 seconds!!! Counting bios startup an everything. Loading time for programs is 1 to 5 sec depending on how heavy the app is. I have tested this drive on both sata 1.5 and sata 3 and I can´t tell the difference between speeds, If you are considering getting an SSD for you lap with sata 1.5 but dont know how will it perform, let me tell you wont tell the difference unless you do a lot of copy and paste.
This is my very first purchase of an Solid state drive and I decided to install it into my old windows vista Dell XPS m1330 and install windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and I love it!! the boot time is INCREDIBLE!! I totally recommend This hard drive for anyone who is purchasing their first SSD
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
Wanted to move to a SSD drive for the performance and since I was moving to Win7, I wanted to get the most out of my system. The vertex drive is by far hands down faster in boot up and in write and read times. Well worth the investment, my recommendation is to do a clean install on win7 you'll get the best results in this configuration.
I am a hardware tech that saw this drive on sale and STUPIDLY bought a few of them for my customers. More than half of them failed in the first few months! The customer service is HORRIBLE and the warranty is even worse. Spend a few extra bucks and buy a better brand name with a better reputation and learn from my mistake.
