These Boston Acoustic BA speakers really are the best digital computer speakers that I have every heard. However, make sure that digital speakers will work with your computer. I had a set of these BA735 speakers that lasted close to 20 years. When they failed, there was only one set of speakers that I wanted to replace them with; The BA735. However, they are no longer made, so I had to get them used. Many people are moving away from desktop PCs and even from Laptops and don't see the value of these speakers, so they sell them used. I found a New Old Stock set and bought them, BUT it was not compatible with my PCs, even though the other BA735 speakers worked great with these PCs. After closer examination, I realized that the BA735 speakers I had all these years had both digital and analog inputs and as it turns out, I always used the analog outputs on my PCs and ran into the analog inputs on my BA735. When I bought the replacement set, it only had digital inputs. I solved the problem by spending about $30 on a analog cable to run from the PC analog audio out that split from one to two and a analog to digital converter and a digital out cable to run from the converter to the speaker input. It works! Sounds amazing! However, if I knew that Boston Acoustics changed the BA735 design and made it only digital and that they made a purely analog set called the BA745, I would have just bought a set of BA745 speakers! I think that the analog sounds even better and that is what most PC audio outs are; analog. You wouldn't think so because after all, it's a computer, a machine that digitized our world, but the audio out is still analog most of the time.Read full review

BA 745 are a great set of speakers even by today's standards. The BA735 were not cmpatable with my computer laptop.

I have owned or used four different sets of BA735's, one of which came as original equipment on a nice Gateway system. While it lacks the USB-connected BA745's convenience headphone/microphone jacks, this set will thrill you when connected to a digital sound card's output. JUST SOME of these Malaysia-built units are also equipped with an Analog input on the subwoofer (usable with iPods, laptops, and the like), while others are STRICTLY DIGITAL and require a coaxial or mini-jack (not optical) digital output on the sound source. If you need one with Analog, be sure to confirm with your seller that the system in question has the dual inputs. There are absolutely no other differences between these two BA735 variants. Quality and finish are top-rate, although I've had one system where the right speaker's cord/plug set had some intermittent-contact issues when the wires were moved.Read full review
Great sounding speakers! Make sure you have a digital audio output source or these will not work for you. All amplification happens inside the set of speakers, that's why they have a higher wattage output. Can't use keyboard volume controls or PC volume controls to adjust volume output, only the volume control on speaker can be used. But they do sound awesome once you get them to work!!! Cannot be used with iPod's or mp3 players, unless you have a special player that has digital audio output...and I seriously doubt you do! LoL
I really like Boston Acoustics computer speakers. I got my first set with a new Gateway computer around 20 years ago now. This particular set can only use digital input so you must have some other digital sound source to drive them. This pretty much limits them to be used only with a computer with a digital output jack on the sound card. My cable television box has a digital sound output jack so they do work with it. They produce nice solid bass and the satellite speakers deliver crisp highs and midrange sound.
