I'm ultimately happy with my purchase, but for a while I felt like I was possibly throwing good money after bad because of a few unexpected turns. The first issue was the board's non-standard size. I figured it'd be large but of the 3 spare cases I have the board is too large for all of them. I decided to open air mount the board, protected by grating. Then I had a problem with the board's narrow heat sink mounts, I had original bought a standard LGA2011 heat sink which couldn't be converted to a narrow mount. After that I had a crash course in 8-pin EPS connectors, followed by a lesson in the difference between one and two DIMM per channel memory. But all in all it was my out of date knowledge that was the problem, not anything that was wrong with the board. I'm only mentioning it so that others might have an easier time. The one thing I will blame SuperMicro for is that the manual for the board shows the JF1 header pins upside-down from the orientation of the board in the diagram. It took a few hours before I realized the power switch was on the wrong pins. The board has a built in RAID controller, which I'm happily taking advantage of.Read full review
