Form factor is excellent at about a 4 inch square. The quad-core i5 processor moves right along, and the integrated graphics handles some intense video games. Generally the fan is quiet, but cranking up the games will make a noticeable increase in the fan noise. Purchased as a replacement for a Blue Iris DVR system currently capturing 10 camera feeds. The previous i5 dual-core was running at between 60 and 100% utilization. This NUC box handling the same cameras runs at 25-40%

I used these to build out my VMware home lab. Great little boxes. I use a NAS with an NFS share for shared storage. I put a 255GB NVMe drive in them with 32GB of RAM and it makes for an inexpensive and relatively simple vSphere cluster!

Instead of upgrading my aging NAS system (i5-3570K) which wasn't keeping up with Plex transcoding, I decided to move the workload to a dedicated system -- and this little guy does the job perfectly, transcoding more than 4 4k HDR streams simultaneously. Initially I had an issue with Ubuntu locking up but others have suggested that sometimes the memory needs to be re-seated, and that was the case here as well.
