I was looking for a good Supermicro server motherboard for a test server I was building and this one caught my eye. I liked that it has dual sockets as I really wanted to build a computer that has 2 CPUs. It has a lot of good features like 12 RAM slots and a PCIx 16 slot so I can use my GTX 570 with it to make sure it still works. One of the things I didn't like about it is that the mount holes didn't line up with the case I got. I guess that is not really the motherboards fault but it does seem to have irregular screw holes. Still has a floppy connector which I do not need but overall it is a great motherboard for me and what I wanted to build with it. This model didn't have the SAS connectors but I knew that and didn't need them for my build. The IPMI feature works great and is nice to be able to turn it on over the network and watch it post over the dedicated IPMI LAN port. Updating the firmware of the IPMI took a few minutes for me to update to the latest but I figured it out and it went smooth after that. Really great board with a lot of cool features.Read full review

Runs like a dream but seems to have trouble with Debian systems (not ubuntu oddly enough) and will not run after install, but runs very well and is reliable

Not as fast as I'd hoped (have owned the X8DTE-F and X8DTH-6F) but it gets the job done. Definitely good enough for a home server.

While it worked, the motherboard was fantastic. However it failed to POST after 1.5 months and therefore had to be scrapped.
