I purchased two of these to convert HDDs that I ripped out of a damaged laptop into external USB drives. I've only tried this product with 2.5" HDD and it works well (not tried it with 2.5" SSDs, but would expect them to work equally well). Data transfer speed is decent, similar to a regular USB 3.0 drive. Can't comment on durability as I've only had them for over a month now, but the build quality looks good and don't seem like they'll give out anytime soon. Update: This converter does not work with a regular 3.5" 5400/7200 internal hard disk drives that are used in desktop computers. I gues this is because the 3.5" HDDs require more power than a USB connection can deliver, but this is not a deal-breaker for me. I would still recommend this product.

It is very convenient to use: small and easy to carry. It is handy to have for copying data from SATA drives to any system has USB connectors. It works with 2.5" hard drives and SSDs. This adapter can also work with some 3.5" hard drives, that depends on two factors: (1) the drive power consumption (2) the USB port current supply, which can be from 0.5 (spec) to 1.5 or 2A (depending on the manufacture). If the HDD power consumption is less than 8W or the USB can support 1.5 to 2A current, then things will work.

Blue LED always on when plugged, red LED flashes when reading/writing occurs. No need for any driver. Can be ejected like a usb memory stick. Total length about 22 cm/9 inches, cable is a bit stiff and curved sideway.

We've used it a few times on two computers--works flawlessly each time to clone Win10 system to SSD. Worked out perfectly each time. For less than a price of a sandwich. Can't beat that!

Works with SSD and HDD drives, has two mini-LEDs to show what the drive is doing. I use these with a cheap HDD for Time Machine backup.
