Solid entry-level server board. I build these for NAS, software firewalls, and special-purpose network applications. Board is "forgiving" - non-ECC or ECC memory, any 3000-series s775 CPU (INCLUDING QUAD-CORE). Intel does NOT use its excellent Southbridge to control fan speeds. Instead it uses a ServerWorks chip which is VERY finicky. Unless you are using an Intel chassis your case and CPU fans will run at full speed all the time. In my case, the server sounds like a jet aircraft preparing for takeoff with six fans. You'll need an Intel Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) on file in order to get the necessary Fan Speed Control white paper to fix this problem. Also, the on-board RAID controller does NOT work with Linux and the Intel-supplied driver is a NIGHTMARE to install. I went with hardware RAID and turned off the on-board controller.Read full review
