went and did a stupid thing and bought a used LGA775 motherboard off of alexpress (beware of that site). long story short, the motherboard fried my q9650 cpu and i needed a replacement cpu. read up that a xeon chip socket 771 could be converted to a 775 and used with less power, more speed and larger fsb. remember the q9650 was top of the core 2 quad next to the qx9650. anyways q9650 was 3ghz 1333fsb. this cpu is 3.2ghz with 1600fsb. even better it didnt carry the $100+ price tag. i just got that little strip that converts the cpu from 771 to 775 and clipped off the excess plastic pieces on the motherboard socket and voila, got me a xeon chip thats faster and uses less power than my old q9650. saved me some time for an upgrade. i can't afford to jump ship to a new cpu/motherboard platform yet. this should save me another 4 years until i actually need to upgrade. this was written may 2016Read full review

The Xeon X5482 is a reliable 3.2GHz CPU, and generally can overclock to at least 3.6GHz without to much trouble with a 454MHz bus.
