it's very convenient to use. it is very quiet. I have been using it for almost a year now. I have no problems of storing data or retrieving data. I use it mostly for backups, as I work with very large files that need to be stored for several years. Therefore I actually have 5 of 4tb. each, and they are almost full now. Might have buy another one soon.

With 4TB, it provides lots of space in a small package. It is a bit heavy for a portable, but 2-2TB drives inside will do that. Spec'd at 233 MB/s in RAID 0 but it maxed out at 200MB/s in my limited testing. Still smoking fast for a portable with platter drives. Works great to add lots of storage to my Mac Pro (late 2013) with its small SSD, but flexible enough to take with my Macbook Air on the road. The integrated Thunderbolt cable has the Plus of being included and stores convieniently wrapped around the device. Never have to worry about forgetting to put the cable in your bag when you head out. Also it is the only cable needed, as it powers the unit as well, which is impressive since it is powering 2 drives. Negative is that if gets damaged it is not user replaceable, but seems rugged enough. If using in a dual boot environment with Windows, I would highly recommend MacDrive on the Windows side as it will see the RAID and you get the added benefit of Journalling of HFS+, otherwise you have to make decisions on using exFAT and partitioning. If OS X only, no thinking involved except choosing RAID 0, 1 or JBOD. Just an FYI in OS X 11.11 El Capitan, Apple has decided to remove the RAID feature from Disk Utility. Another example of Apple dumbing things down for no reason. RAID options are still available through terminal commands, but no simple GUI. However, the Western Digital Utility included is simple enough to use and to configure the device. Most of the time the device is extremely quiet. However, under heavy load the built-in fan will kick in to cool the unit. Not real loud but a bit high pitched. Not a deal breaker for me. I would very much recommend this drive and when it gets filled up, I will definitely be purchasing another. Can't beat the flexibility of this drive with no compromise in speed. Read full review
