WYSE XPe Thin Client Pre-Configured MagicJack 512/256mb
Wyse 9450 Thin Client ComputerPre-Configured for MagicJack Phone
Question & Answer
Q:
Can I just plug in the magic jack in without a computer??? I have a wireless router and I use a laptop but of course I take the laptop with me or leave it at work..does it work like that?
A:
Yes you just plug in the magicjack, this is the computer that the magicjack would use, instead of your laptop. You would just put this unit near your router and plug in an ethernet cable from this unit into your router. You can just leave this unit in a closet or where ever your router is located. You don't need a keyboard, mouse or monitor for this unit. You can connect to it from your laptop using a "VNC" client to see the desktop if you want to, but you don't need to.
Q:
do i need a subscription from magicjack inorder for this device to work?
A:
Yes, you need a valid registered magicjack.
Q:
what do you mean its pre-configured for magicjack
A:
The MagicJack software is already installed along with all the required support files that would not normally be available or installed on a thin client Embeded Windows XP computer. It has already been completely configured and tested with a MagicJack, so when you receive it, you can just plug in your magicjack and you are ready to go, just plug-n-play.
Q:
Is the magic jack service paid for with this item or do I have to innisiate new service?
A: You can use it with a new or existing magicjack service. The phone number is part of the magicjack USB device. It does not include a magicjack device.
Q:
So what is this really?, im curios but i dont understand technical terms, is this a computer too? I use magicjack on the road and OOMA at home.
A:
This is a "Thin" Computer with just enough windows XP to run magicjack and do some lightweight web surfing. There is no hard disk drive or fans or any moving parts, it is all solid state. It uses very little power (Less than 8 watts). Most people buy something like this to "Offload" the magicjack phone onto another computer so the phone is not dependent on their main computer being up and online 24 hours a day 7 days a week. You can think of it as the "Phone System" computer for magicjack.
Q:
Hi If I install my own ~40Gb 2.5" HD, can I transfer your pre-configured OS onto it? A: If you install your own HD, you would only use it to store programs and data, not the embedded XP OS. The OS is not easily transferrable and the system would actually run slower because of the disk drives access time for os functions. You could also replace the embedded XPe flash drive and install a full Windows XP and your magicjack would then work like a normal XP install and not need the pre-configured XPe Solid State flash drive.
Q: What do you mean by "MagicJack updating has been disabled so It will not Break its operation." If it wasn't disabled, what would break? A:
The XP Embedded OS is based on Windows XP Pro BUT, it is specifically taylored by the Manufacturer for the Hardware it is installed on and to fit in the available flash disk space, so not all the Extra XP PRO features are installed. And, Magic Jack updates might require some driver or system code that is not installed in the Thin Clients Embedded version of XP. Which could make the Magic Jack fail after being updated. If you buy a unit that allows automatic updates and it stops working because the magicJack software is no longer compatible, what are you going to do about that in the future? Contact the guy who sold it you? He may not know what to do about that – if you can find him.
Q: I see in your product offerings you use different processor speeds of 533 MHz and other sellers are offering units with 1.0 or 1.2 GHz processors. Does speed matter just for the use with MJ. A: There is more to this question than just processor clock speeds, the C3 Processor is a real x86 processor and the Transmeta processors are "x86 emulators" using a “VLIW - Very Long Instruction Word”, so it takes many more clock cycles to perform the same instruction. The units that use the The Transmeta Crusoe TM5800 processor, "even with its large L2, the TM5800 is no track star. In fact, on many applications the only processor slower than the TM5800 is the TM5600, its ancestor". You can read more about the Crusoe processor and see a comparison of theVIA C3-Nehemiah to the Transmeta Crusoe TM5800 by clicking on this link. So, The real answer is that speed does matter but only when you compare apples to apples. In this case 550MHZ is about the same as 1.2Ghz and when used for Magicjack it will perform as good as a full blown desktop.
Q: Does the thin client include the XPe COA sticker and the install disc? Thanks A: Yes, the COA sticker and serial # is on all the units I sell, but there is no install disc even when you get a thin client new. You can download the Flash disk image directly from the vendor website www.wyse.com which is where I get images to reflash units. Bill V Q:
Also can these operate two magicjack's Thanks A:
Only one magicjack can be used on any computer at a time, the magicjack software does not know how to run more than one instance of the program. Q:
Do I need USB 2.0 for MagicJack A:
USB 1.1 is 1500 times faster than required to handle Telephone Quality Sound (8khz). I have personally used MagicJacks on both USB 1.1 that run at processor speeds from 550Mhz (This Thin Client) up to 3.4 GHz and USB 2.0 (My Desktop) and have not noticed any difference in the quality of Sound or Phone Connections between them.
Q: Can I install a Standard PCI Card in your Thin Client for Magic Jack? A: YES, this system can handle a standard PCI card, I have personally used a Dual Slot PCMCIA Card Reader for use with different Cards. None of the other magicjack thin clients have a usable PCI card slot.
