This listing is for three (3) IBM System/360 computer central-processor boards containing various SLT (Solid Logic Technology) “chips”.
These boards were from an IBM System/360 model 40 mainframe computer — specifically the model 40 that was installed in the basement of the student union building at IIT (Illinois Institute of Technology) in about 1968.
Most all of the mainframe computers of this era were melted down for scrap, including significant amounts of gold used in the contacts, but this one was saved by a student and his professor before it got to the salvage yard.
The date codes on the chips on the board are from 1965. This board is a "1st generation" board. By today's standards these SLT chips were very simplistic, each containing perhaps a dozen or so transistors at most, but were the first of their kind in the commercial world.
From IBM's website: "The Solid Logic Technology (SLT), introduced in 1964 by IBM in System/360, was the industry's first high-volume, automatic, micro-miniature production of semiconductor circuits. Mounted on 1/2-inch-square ceramic modules, the SLT circuits were denser, faster and required less power than the previous generation of transistor technology".
