Vintage Henri Pouisscon Cornet Trumpet Winchester Ammo Case WJ Dyer & Bro.:
$199.00

The back of this specially fitted wood box is scripted: shotgun cartridges manufactured by Winchester Repeating Arms Co. New Haven Connecticut USA but inside the case is a Henri Pouisscon silver cornet .

I can find lots of information on Winchester Arms but nothing on Henri Pouisscon. The bell of the cornet says \"Paris\" but on the bottom of the middle valve, just above the bottom cap is the word \"Austria\". So it appears that the instrument was made in Austria and the Pouisscon Company was in Paris.

William John Dyer was born in London England in 1841 and made his way to Faribault , Mn in 1869. Dyer and his brother opened a music store there and then moved to St Paul after a couple years. By 1891 it was the largest music store west of Chicago and lasted 70 years.

In. 1897 WJDyer & Bro merged into Metropolitan Music Co, one of St Paul\'s most venerable institutions. What was the name of the company after this merger? Is this potential answer helpful in dating this instrument since the cornet states that Dyer Company , not Metropolitan Music Co, were the sales agent for it?

The condition of this item is good. Only a few small dents in the most rear bend and there is of course tarnish in the areas that the fingers of the left hand hold the valve area the thumb of the right hand.

The box is dovetailed on one corner and it is wider where the bell of the trumpet is so this box was specially fitted for this instrument.
