This unit will hold one or two IDE hard drives. I insertedtwo 500-gig hard drives. Make sure you don't buy SATA drives, you need IDE drives. I thought the limit was 1 TB (two x 500 gig) but the Netgear site (see link below) says "unlimited."
The concept of this is really great--you can save to this network drive via yourhome network. All computers on that network have access to the drive. You can stick the drive way out of the way (as long as you have a hard wired connection)--basement, garage, attic. As it is on the network directly, you don't need a host computer--which means you can leave all computers off except the laptop (or desktop) you're usingat the time. What a great idea!
Caution: I had some difficulties hooking it up with VIsta and gave up and bought individual drive enclosures; I see that there are now drivers for Vista. Netgear has an extensive forum with details.
Another caution: the drives you insert into this unit will be erased when you set them up to work in the SC101. So use new drives or those that hold unimportant information. Most people do not know this until they read the instructions.
This item includes original box, the software, the ethernet cable, power cord and adapter, and the SC101. Drives are sold separately.
I have 100% positive feedback--mostly on purchases but I do sell too.
