Offered here is a RARE Vintage Commodore 4040 Dual Disk Drive that was issued by Commodore in the early 80s. This drive was designed to be used with Pet 4000 and 8000 series computers but could also be used with the B-Series. even a C64 or Vic 20 if you have an IEEE cartridge.The 4040 is somewhat rarer than the 8050 and was somewhat compatible with the 1541 drive It was Commodores next version of the 2040 drive. The unit powers on and seems to go through the self test normally. I Tested this drive to some degree. I was easily able to load programs from both drives and get directories from both drives without any hesitation.The drive seemed to function quite well for nearly 40 years old. I did notice that D0 light is not working. A minor detail. No further testing done..This drive is in overall excellent condition for its age but does have a few minor scuffs and scratches. It was sold new locally. I am selling this AS IS Parts or REPAIR as I cannot warranty 35+ year old electronics. However at this time, it does function as described. It has been stored in a dry place for many years. This is the last 4040 drive I will be listing in the foreseeable future. May need some tinkering to fully function properly.
