This auction is for one QNAP TS-409U Rackmount network attached storage device (NAS). This enterprise or business-level NAS accepts up to four hard drives up to 1 TB in size. It can do a variety of RAID levels, including RAID0, RAID1, RAID0+1, and RAID5. Its power draw is very, very low (if I recall correctly, under 30 W idle). The drives bays are hot-swap capable since they are SATA.

The unit itself is powered by a custom and often-updated Linux OS. It includes an FTP server, NFS server, AFP server, and can act as an Active Directory domain controller. It can also broadcast music and video via DAAP (iTunes) or DLNA (Xbox and PS3) and has a neat download client which can offload HTTP, FTP, and BitTorrent downloads to the device through a web administration panel.

It is powerful enough to serve as a development server or low-traffic web server. It includes PHP and MySQL, and a host of other developer-friendly tools are available, too.

Personally, I own a TS-109 Pro and swear by it. It's been the best NAS I've ever owned (and I've owned quite a few). I use it in a heterogenous environment (Windows and Linux) and it's a top-notch product. I had this unit for review and it's overkill for my purposes, so that's why I'm selling it.
