Virtual/Digital Windows 10 Licenses

If you previously upgraded from an older version of Windows to Windows 10, you have what is known asa digital or virtual license. That means the Microsoft servers already know you have a Windows 10 license for that laptop, which is linked to serial numbers of several pieces of hardware they identified in your laptop and it will be automatically validated by Microsoft without you putting in an actual product key. While you do not need a physical product key in this case, you do need to know if you own Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Home as the installed version on the drive must match the version you own.

Why upgrade from a standard SATA hard drive (HDD) to a Solid State Drive (SSD)

A Solid State Drive has no moving parts so is much more durable than a mechanical Hard Disk Drive. It is also much quicker. It boots into Windows 3 x quicker than a standard SATA hard drive. The choice is basically whether you prefer more speed or more space for the same money. A 256GB 2.5\" SATA III SSD costs more than a 500GB 2.5\" SATA Hard Disk Drive, but operates at a much faster speed and is more reliable.

CanI install this solid state drive in another model of laptop?

Yes, but the drivers installed arefor the Lenovo ThinkPad L430 and L530only. The hardware in any other model will be different, so if Windows 10 does not automatically install the other drivers needed, you will have to find them and install them to get all you hardware working.

Do I need to have a product key for the exact version of Windows?

Yes. All Microsoft Windowslicenses are version specific - a license for Windows10 Pro will not validate Windows10 Home.

Does it matter if I had the 32-Bit version installed before and now want the 64-Bit version?

No. A Windowslicense will validate either 32-Bit or 64-Bit version of that sameOS. Even if you had 32-Bit installed beforeyou can switch to the 64-Bit version and validate it with the same license.

Whatif I do not have a product keyor want aversion of Windowsthat isdifferent from the one I own?

Ifyou don\'t own Windows 10 Home, but want to upgrade to it, you can purchase a keyfrom Microsoft.
