$9.95

Vintage IBM U.Mich-Michigan Terminal System (MTS)
myMTS is a GUI for running the Michigan Terminal System (MTS) that was developed by the University of Michigan from 1966 thru 1996 to provide services for students and staff at their campus locations throughout the state. It originally ran on an IBM 360, then System/370, then the IBM 4141 processor. It is run on a PC with the help of the open source Hercules emulator. It is now available under the Creative Commons License (details included in a file on the CD). This system has all sorts of esoteric compilers such as GPSS, LISP, SNOBOL, and many others. The average student sees it from an interactive terminal session point of view. The GUI includes a Hercules console, MTS system console, 3270 terminal for user login, card facility, and a print facility. It runs on Windows 7, 8, and the new Windows 10, and Linux. Instructions are provided to install and boot the OS. There a few example compiler jobs included (does not cover the entire range of compilers available).

VBBlue3270 is a 3270 terminal emulator that can be used to connect to MTS as a normal student would in a college computer lab. You can have your myMTS running in your basement computer room and connect to it with this terminal emulator from anywhere else in the house, or if you adjust your home router/firewall the internet as well.

As an additional perk, I now include the java VintageBBS telnet client on the CD. This allows you to connect to the over 300 bulletin board systems still operating in the US. The presentation has the same proportions as the old style PC monitors in use in that day. It includes a search feature to find the 5 closest BBS\'s to your specified ZIP code.

It comes on a CD setup and ready to boot, a 32 and 64 bit Hercules Windows installer, the Hercules source tarball for building on Linux, and the Java runtime environment installation package for Windows. For Linux the Java runtime would need to be downloaded from Oracle or installed from your repository.

Shipping is free to US locations via USPS First Class Mail. International shipping is $2. Payment is via PayPal only. Total cost to US destinations is $9.95, international $11.95. If you are not satisfied you may request a full refund without the need to return the CD as long as you do so within 14 days of purchase.
