I am selling several Intel Xeon Quad Core X5460 3.16GHz CPU\'s that have been modified to work in some systems that support newer Core 2 Quad CPU\'s. This CPU will give you slightly better performance than the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0GHz CPU but at a much more reasonable price.

The CPU in this listing was modified using the \"Xeon mod\". Intel Core 2 Quad (and Duo) processors use an LGA775 socket format while the comparable Xeon models use the LGA771 format. Without a modification the Xeon CPU\'s will not work (or fit) in an LGA775 motherboard. The Xeon mod involves rewiring pins on the CPU using a circuit sticker that you place on the underside of the CPU. In addition to this, the mod normally involves cutting away notches on the CPU socket of the motherboard. However, to make it easier I\'ve cut notches into the CPU itself so this way you can avoid having to cut away the little plastic notches in the CPU socket of the motherboard. This mod is safe and does not cause any stability issues. Let me know if you have any questions about the mod

First off, some Intel CPU chipsets will not work with this type of modified CPU. The ones that come to mind as NOT being compatible are X38, X48, Q33, Q35, Q43, & Q45. Unfortuantely this rules out some of Dell\'s more popular systems. For instance, the following Dell systems will not work with this mod, XPS 420 / 430, Precision T3400, and Optiplex 755 / 760 /780 / 960. However this type of modified CPU will work in lower Optiplex models such as the Otpiplex 330 / 360 / 380 (BIOS update will be neeed but is available). Also, many of the Vostro and Inspiron desktops are compatible (for instance, I\'ve successfully used a modified CPU with an Inspiron 537).

The best way to determine compatibility is to do a google search for the model of your system and then include the words \"xeon mod\". For instance if you wanted to see if the Dell Optiplex 330 is compatible then search for: Optiplex 330 xeon mod. Also, a website called delidded.com has a page that lists compatibility for many popular OEM systems and motherboards. Please also realize that you may need to use a specially modified BIOS for the CPU to properly work. Many popular systems already have modified BIOS\'s available.
