I have already sold a hybrid computer which was the link between 386 and 486 architecture. This one now is connecting the late 486 to the Pentium era. The heart of the system is a Cyrix 5x86100Mhz CPU (actually rebranded to ST but internally the same) which by itself is quite a rare item. This CPU has much more enhancements than the similarly named AMD 5x86 (which in spite of the name is simply a clock quadrupled 486DX). Cyrix was already developing its Pentium competitor 6x86 line when the 5x86 came out and implemented many Pentium design elements into the chip for the older (Socket 3) platform. Thus making it the fastest chip available for 486 motherboards except maybe for the Pentium Overdrives.
The motherboard of the computer is an advanced one supporting PCI and EDO RAM. Both of these new features are utilized, the former one by a S3 Virge 4MB GUI and semi-3D accelerator (with very fast 80Mhz memory) and the latter by 2x16MB 60ns EDO modules. There is also an original Sound Blaster 16 Pro ISA sound card for the best possible compatibility with every software.
This is required since the computers 1GB CF card is currently installed with MS-DOS 6.22 and a wide range of games, demos, music (.mid, .mod and even .mp3 with the appropriate DOS based audio players), and emulators (Amiga, Atari, C64, Nintendo, SEGA, etc.). I chose DOS for this build but it is of course quite capable of handling Windows 95 which would open a whole new world of multimedia capabilities especially with the fun to use Pioneer slot loading CD-ROM drive.
The computer is newly built from old parts. All
hardware are thoroughly cleaned and tested in every aspect. I can also alter
the hardware configuration. I intended to be period correct but if someone wishes
so I can install PCI sound cards (like SB Live!, Ensoniq AudioPCI, Aureal
Vortex) and also more powerful PCI graphics card (like Ati Rage 128) in the
computer. Almost forgot to mention that the CPU is capable of running at 120Mhz (overclocked) speed which is easily configurable by motherboard jumpers. :)
I have been collecting vintage PCs, parts and accessories as a hobby for 9 years.
The hardware I’m selling were all tested mostly at the day of the listing or not too much earlier. I take responsibility of their functionality for a reasonable testing period (one week following delivery). If there would be a problem I would either return the money or send a replacement part.
In most cases I have software and electronic documentation for the listed items which I would gladly share.
I provide combined shipping for sales ending in a few days interval.
The items are safely packaged in antistatic bag, bubble wrap and cardboard boxes taking into account the size and weight of the hardware and the destination country.
I also accept offers. If you think I overpriced something or just want to pay a bit less contact me!
I would gladly answer any questions regarding my listed hardware.
