Commodore VIC-20 Raspberry Pi--fully functioning modern computer in vintage case:
$100.00

This is a Commodore VIC-20 computer whose motherboard has been replaced with a Raspberry Pi 3 model B. An Arduino compatible Pro Micro translates the VIC-20 keyboard to a USB interface. The system can be used as a stand-alone USB keyboard for most modern computers, or with the included 5 volt power supply it becomes a functioning Linux based computer with WiFi, 10/100 Ethernet, and Bluetooth. The included 32 Gb micro-SD card can be repurposed or replaced to operate the system as an arcade game, an entertainment console, or even a Commodore 64. The modifications to the case were made to be completelynon-destructive.
What You Get:
  • Commodore VIC-20 case and keyboard
  • Raspberry Pi 3 model B
    • 1.2GHz 64-bit quad-core ARMv8 CPU
    • 1 GB RAM
    • 802.11n Wireless LAN
    • 10/100Mbps Ethernet LAN
    • Bluetooth 4.1, Bluetooth Low Energy
    • 4 USB ports
    • HDMI port
    • 3.5mm audio port
  • Sandisk Ultra 32GB Micro SDHC UHS-I Card (Class 10)

  • Arduino compatible Pro Micro keyboard/USB interface
  • 5V 2.5A power supply
  • USB keyboard cable

Note that the system video out is HDMI. You may require an HDMI to DVI or an HDMI to VGA adapter. These are available online for under $10. Audio out is available via HDMI or a 3.5mm stereo headphone style jack on the rear of the case.
The Keyboard interface is powered by usb and the port is exposed on the rear of the VIC-20. This will allow the system to operate as a USB keyboard with no additional power. It will however require a short USB cable (included) from the rear of the case to the side in order to use the keyboard with the Raspberry Pi. Certainkey substitutions were made in an effort to adaptthe VIC-20 keyboard to modern needs. A short referencecard listing these substitutions will be provided as both a laminated card and a PDF.The script which reads and translates the keyboard is custom software written for this project. In anticipationof any future needs, a copy suitable to reflash the Pro Micro will be sent via email to the winning party at the address registeredwith . (Pressing Restore during bootup will bypass the keyboard script and allow access to the Pro Micro bootloader.)
