Model number: Cisco Catalyst® 2950-24 is a member of theCisco Catalyst 2950 Series switches, and is a standalone,fixed-configuration, managed 10/100 switch providinguser connectivity for small to mid-sized networks.This wire-speed desktop switch comes with StandardImage (SI) software features and offers Cisco IOS®functionality for basic data, video and voice servicesat the edge of the network. Embedded in all Catalyst2950 Series is the Cisco Cluster Management Suite(CMS) Software, which allows users to simultaneouslyconfigure and troubleshoot multiple Catalyst desktopswitches using a standard Web browser.

A private VLAN edge provides security and isolationbetween ports on a switch, ensuring that voice traffictravels directly from its entry point to the aggregationdevice through a virtual path and cannot be directedto a different port.

Support for the 802.1x standard allows users to beauthenticated regardless of which LAN ports they areaccessing, and it provides unique benefits to customerswho have a large base of mobile (wireless) users accessingthe network.

802.1x with voice VLAN permits an IP phone accessto the voice VLAN regardless of the authorized orunauthorized state of the port.

802.1x with Port Security authenticates the portand manages network access for all MAC addresses,including that of the client.

IEEE 802.1x with Guest VLAN allows guests without802.1x clients to have limited network access on theGuest VLAN.

IEEE 802.1x with VLAN assignment allows a dynamicVLAN assignment for a specific user regardless ofwhere the user is connected.

SSHv2 provides network security by encrypting administratortraffic during Telnet sessions. SSHv2 requires a specialcryptographic software image due to US export restrictions

Port Security secures the access to a port basedon the MAC address of a user's device. The aging featureremoves the MAC address from the switch after a specifictime to allow another device to connect to the sameport.

MAC Address Notification allows administrators tobe notified of new users added or removed from thenetwork.

Multilevel security on console access prevents unauthorizedusers from altering the switch configuration.

The Catalyst 2950-24 Switch provides (24) RJ-45ports for 10/100BaseTX auto-negotiating connections.With its trim, 1RU form factor, this unit canbe flexibly deployed either on a desktop orelse mounted in a wiring closet.The Catalyst 2950 Series delivers superior LAN/EdgeQoS, supporting two modes of reclassification.Based on 802.1p standards, mode one honors Class-of-Service(CoS) values ingress points and assigns packetsto appropriate queues. In mode two, should untaggedframes arrive, the Catalyst 2950 supports classificationbased on default CoS values assigned per (ingress)port. Conversely, the Catalyst 2950 supports fouregress queues, allowing for especially discriminatingand granular priority assignment for a diverserange of LAN applications.Strict configuration of Priority Schedulingenables certain time-sensitive applications(e.g. Voice) to unerringly follow the most expeditiouspath through the switch fabric. Weighted RoundRobin scheduling, another big enhancement, ensuresthat lower-priority traffic receives suitableattention without compromising your pre-definedpriority settings.
