This unit has been tested and works with a bit of ghosting on the image. I\'m not sure if this is due to the fact I am using a flat screen monitor, but should be noted. It is still very much usable, See Pictures the system is shown running.
Full Disclosure of what I know about this:
When first tested, it would only show black and white on screen (no ghosting), when using the component TV cord. So I tried an old Nintendo RF connection cord (because I don\'t have the original Commodore RF connector) and connected the RF connection from the Commodore 64 to the Coaxial Connection of my TV. Result was fuzzy static screen, but image in color and not ghosting.
I did a search online, found some chat boards and saw where an adjustment to a variable resistor on the VIC-II Chip on the motherboard might fix the issue. So I carefully opened the unit, it was very easy BTW, unscrewed 3 screws and unhooked 2 connectors. Using a small flathead screwdriver, adjusted the variable resistor at R25 location, and the color came back to the on screen image...but with ghosting. It was either crisp Black and White, or slightly ghosting Color..no in between. I chose to leave this with the slightly ghosting image, with color, as I had many software titles needing pictures, and didn\'t want to have them all in black and white.
When this adjustment was made, I tested the RF connection again, and it was in black and white.
As I have come to understand, to own a Commodore 64 is to become a Commodore 64 repair tech or eventually become one. This is vintage technology.
So, with that being said, this unit works very well actually! It has been tested over the course of a few days to test many software titles, and was lots of fun! My 5 year old boy could not stop playing Hard Hat Mack and does not want me to sell this. He has a PS4 system so that was nice to see. It has been well kept over the years, adult owned. The box has the original foam packing inserts and inner box for cord storage. The machine is clean, there is some discoloration on the sides from age/storage but overall its a very nice system cosmetically.
