PROTOTYPE DVT IIcx Apple Macintosh Avanti code - Vintage Mac Computer Rare:
$2000.00

For sale is a very rare prototype Macintosh IIcx. This is the only one I have ever seen. The board is code named \"Avanti\" and the ROMs are labeled \"3 Stooges\". ROMs are socketed and not soldered in place like production units. Also the silkscreen is yellow which is much more common in prototypes than production where its typically white.
The case is smooth, both the cover and main box. And its in rough shape. Cleaning will help make it look better. Possibly some retro-brighting. The cover has some damage and while I have other covers, they would not be smooth or original to this Mac. Please carefully review pictures.
The ports have no icons, just recessed boxes where they would go including the voltage rating for the power supply and security lock icons. Also the molded in model name and FCC info are missing. There is a serial label and it indicated this is a VERY early DVT model and not a later PVT model. This means that the hardware is not finalized yet! And looking at the motherboard, its different then production units. The capacitors, for example, are reversed in polarity. There are some other subtle differences.
The computer does not boot and is being sold as-is for repairs. It might be a capacitor issue or power supply issue. Being such a rare item, I did not want to attempt repairs.
EVT = Engineering verification test, execution of the hardware design concept. Usually hacked together into non-production design. Plexi cases, etc. Very rare to find as only a handful are usually made.DVT = Design verification test, most design bugs worked out as a more production-like model. Fairly rare to find as there are often more changes that will be made.PVT = Production verification test, low volume production to ensure no issues during mass production. Usually no changes from final production models. PVT are the most common variants to find in the wild as they most resemble the finished product.
Included is what is pictured, nothing extra.
Usual disclaimer! This is a vintage computer. There are some dings, scratches, etc. So look at pictures carefully! Pictures are part of the description! Because of the age of the item, its sold as-is, no returns. I have shipped dozens of compact Macs over the years, it will be well packed and I typically ship the accessories, if included, in a separate box to prevent any collision damage. I have never had a shipping issue! If you have any questions or need more photos, please ask before buying!
Ships insured to CONFIRMED U.S. addresses only or U.S. Global Shipping Center. No PO boxes. Signature will be required (sorry, I hate that too but given the value of this item its a must). Payment via PayPal. Items bought via international shipping are sometimes not covered by insurance beyond the global shipping center. You must arrange your own insurance in those instances and any shipping damages, however unlikely, will not be covered by me.
